If you want each group member to submit a portion of the project, then you would select “Assign Grades to Each Student Individually”. If you want one student to submit the whole project, you only select “This is a Group Assignment”.

There are two ways that you can use the Group Assignment option. Have you used the Group Assignment option in Canvas? The group discussion feature would be a great forum for students to plan out who will be doing which portions of the project and/or mapping out the project itself. This makes it easier for you to figure out which students are in which groups as well and you don’t need to go through a long discussion thread. With the Group Discussion feature, you can also toggle back and forth between the group discussions to see which groups have a strong foundation and other groups that may be struggling. This can be useful for you as the instructor to see which students are collaborating on the project and those who may need help engaging in the conversation! It also gives you the chance as the instructor to chime in when needed. When you use this feature, it allows the students to have discussions within their designated group sets.
